G. LOOMIS ROD GUIDE
|
|
Designed for the utmost delicacy in presentation, these ultralight rods
will cast tiny flies with great precision and control. In designing this
series, G. Loomis took into account the shock absorption qualities necessary
to play fish on tippets all the way down to 8X. The two and three-weights
are intended for fishing small creeks and ponds with floating lines, oftentimes
in very calm, crystal clear water. This is where some of the most selective
trout can be found, and these rods will help seasoned fly fishers attain
the loop control and line speed necessary to present even a #22 PMD with
flawless precision. These rods may be small, and you'll marvel at their
weightlessness, yet they're more than capable of playing and landing large
trout and panfish. If you commonly fish smaller waters with limited casting
space, we recommend the shorter models for increased control and finesse.
On slightly larger streams or ponds, where you may want to extend your
casting range, we suggest the longer options.

4 - 6 WEIGHT FLY RODS
|
|
These are the most popular fly rod sizes in the world. Targeted mainly
at trout, but also capable of taking on smallmouth bass and panfish, Loomis
four to six-weights excel at casting and presenting a wide variety of dries,
emergers, nymphs and streamers. Whether you fish streams, rivers or lakes,
using floating, sink tip or full-sink lines, there's a rod here (if not
three or four of them) that will blow your mind. Case in point, the GLX
models. Lighter than seemingly possible, these rods cast tight loops at
high speeds with buttery-smooth precision—whether you're aiming 10 feet
away or 50. There really is no comparable rod on the market. Perfectly
suited to cast small and medium-size flies in most conditions, the 9-foot
#5 is the most versatile of all, recommended as the prime all-around size.
For small flies and lighter tippets, a four-weight will offer greater delicacy
and finesse. Six-weights, conversely, will aid in overcoming moderate wind
conditions, in turning over larger flies, and in landing the oversized
surprises we all dream about.

|
7 - 9 WEIGHT FLY RODS
|
|
The seven to nine-weights are where you begin to get into big flies and
even bigger fish: mainly the anadromous freshwater species and smaller
saltwater types. Anglers look to these muscular middle-weight rods to give
them greater casting distance and enhanced fish fighting abilities. What's
more, they help counter the capricious conditions often encountered in
pursuit of such gamefish. Namely, sudden gusty winds. If you've spent the
balance of your angling life casting a 5-weight, picking up a #9 can be
a humbling event. Even a seasoned trout fisherman can crumble when faced
with powering a 9-weight into the wind while sight casting to a tailing
bonefish or attempting to launch a purple Freight Train across a rainy
steelhead drift. That's why Loomis has done everything possible to make
these rods the lightest and most responsive in the business.
